Borgo Sette Torri

(18th century)

This eighteenth century rural village was once a summer retreat for the people of Giovinazzo, Molfetta and Terlizzi. This cool, green oasis was a heavenly place in which to escape the torrid summer heat. On the right of the small central square stands the village’s first building: a two-storey farmhouse with faded red walls. A screen of ancient olive trees seem to protect this old building and defend its memory. Stepping inside, we find a small chapel, a corner of prayer and meditation.

The bell gable with one arch stands sentry to the building’s secrets. Above the architrave is a 19th century inscription. On the façade of the chapel is a round window below the crest of the noble Uva family of Molfetta. This village was not just a place in which to spend the summer, it was probably also used as a refuge by wealthy families in times of plague. Borgo Sette Torri is not just a pleasant corner of the countryside but it is a real treasure chest of memories.
